Research & Discovery

Department of Physics offers research opportunities in a variety of fields, ranging from experimental physics and astrophysics to theoretical and mathematical physics. Our graduate students are encouraged to start their research careers early in their academic journeys, and are expected to join one of the research groups available in our department: please check out this page to see our diverse research fields and our faculty in each research area.

You can see our past graduate students in this page, along with their dissertation titles and details of their thesis field. You may also see below the last 20 dissertations defended at our department!

Education & Traditions

Our department offers three graduate programs: M.S. in PhysicsPh.D. in Physics, and Integrated Ph.D. in Physics: you may find the curricilums of these programs here.

By the traditions of our department, each PhD candidate has to pass a Qualifying Exam as well; you may find the details of this exam along with sample questions in this page.

Besides the formalities listed above, an informal yet equally important tradition of our department is to provide our students with a nurturing and sustaining environment. The department grounds is 7/24 accessible to all our students for all their activities such as their group projects, journal clubs, or even social activities such as game nights. This ensures social bounding among our students and researchers alike.

Further Details

Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences provides various details from application process to the thesis jury assignment: please check their website for further information.
